Moriches Bay and Adjacent Waters

wave1b.gif (233 bytes)Most but not all of Captain Mike's fishing occurs in Moriches Bay and the nearby adjacent waters of the Great South Bay.  Moriches Bay and The Great South Bay are part of a  Tidal Estuary with a number of inlets to the Atlantic Ocean.  The nearest to Moriches Bay being Moriches Inlet.  It is bordered on the north by Long Island and is protected from the Atlantic Ocean by Fire Island, a collection of barrier beaches.  The salinity of the water varies according to location.   The saltiest areas being closest to the inlets.  The bottom of the bay is composed of either sand or mud with seaweed fields being common.
